Grass Slipper by Donna Kallner

Tradition in evolution.

At the Textile Center Donna Kallner

Over the past decade, my life has intertwined with the lives of workshop participants from across the country. I love the challenge of developing ideas and organizing their delivery in ways that help students make the most of their time in a workshop.

Each student has a slightly different take on the material. Every student is like a marker on fiber art's DNA. At any moment, an unexpected variable can lead someone in a new direction. It's exciting to be a part of that evolutionary process.

My learning process as a teacher began back in another life when I was (not kidding here) a professional whitewater canoe instructor. That may not be the most traditional path to fiber arts instruction, but it was a good one. Lessons I learned on the water about learning styles, class preparation and organization, safety -- even posture -- still apply. I love teaching, and put great thought and effort into making the learning experience fun and productive.
