Dig into evolving  fiber traditions.

From 2007

In life, as in looping, everything links to something that came before. That could not be more true when it comes to my writing.

In the early 1980s I had the good fortune to work as the associate editor of a trade magazine for independent restaurant owners. My wonderful mentor,, Jeanette Riechers, taught me to be proud of the craft in writing clear, concise product briefs as well as feature stories and cover articles. I'll always be grateful for the education I got there, and I'll never forget the thrill of first seeing my name in the
Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature.

When I moved Up North a few years later, I used my writing skills to produce catalogs of class offerings for our whitewater paddling school and a retail catalog for our mail order business. I also become a regular columnist for
Silent Sports magazine. I got to write about whatever I thought the paddling community should know: How to paddle tandem and stay married. The ABCs of canoeing with kids. How to get the stink out of boating gear. I did some other freelancing during those years and Bill and I even wrote a book on kayaking, but it's my Silent Sports column that readers remember.

In the last few years, most of my writing has been reference materials for students in my fiber art workshops. I want students to go home with confidence that they can explore techniques on their own, and I think good handouts are essential to that. Some students never read them, but for others they're the difference between having an experience and true learning.

More and more students are asking when I'm going to write a book on looping. That's been my intention for quite a while, and finally it's happening. I have just one more sample project to complete. So close! But I have a busy teaching season starting (and am grateful for it), so must finish in between preparing class materials and traveling.

I'm even closer to being done with my book on altered images for fiber art, and hope to put finishing touches on it within the next few weeks.

I also have outlines for another looping book for 2008, and two other titles after that. And I hope you'll start to see my byline occasionally in some fiber art magazines.

When books are ready, I'll post ordering information here. In the meantime, if you would like to receive an email announcement that books are ready to ship,  please let me know.

Now if I could just find time to get those Christmas cards written...
