About Kettle Moraine Some of my work is inspired by the way water and time sculpt the land. Here where I live in Wisconsin, it's easy to see the story of the Ice Age in the terrain. Potholes called "kettles" and mounds called "moraines" dot the landscape. The field behind our house is littered with fieldstones, courtesy of the glacier. The farmer who owns that field is engaged in a never-ending quest to remove every rock from that thin soil. And every winter, the frost heaves up more rocks. Honestly, I don't know whether to root for the rocks or the farmer. But I have to admire the tenacity it takes to keep trying when all indications say the goal is impossible to achieve. If we only attempt what's possible, how do we learn that we can do more?" This piece was included in Best of the West: Convergence 2004 Leader Exhibit at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.
