In addition to the looping workshop topics listed on this page, you'll find More Looping Workshops and Netting Workshops on other pages. If you would like to discuss scheduling a workshop for your group, please email me. I look forward to working with you.
New Age Looping - 1-5 days Explore new applications for an off-loom technique that dates back to the Ice Age and continues to evolve as contemporary fiber artist give it their own spin. Most workshops begin with basic looping technique with an emphasis on tension control and stitch placement and New Age ways to add thread. Additional topics, depending on the time available, may include spiral looping, working back and forth, shaping options, bead looping, knotless and knotted stitch variations, skipped stitch patterning, crowned stitches, purl looping, intarsia, complex looping (which intersects with multiple rows), scrumble looping, freeform, ruffles & ridges, layered looping, working with and without molds, base and border variations, and double-wall constructions.
Burundi Looping--1-3 days. Learn a single-element looping technique where stitches intersect with multiple previous rows to create a richly textured surface that resembles a woven twill. You'll also learn a two-color Burundi variation that creates vertical stripes in a horizontal structure, and a bead looping technique.
Cross-Knit Looping - 1 day. Learn cross-knit looping, which is sometimes known as cross-looping or needle knitting. At a glance it is indistinguishable from stockinette stitch in knitting, but cross-knit looping will not unravel. You will also learn to add texture and color accents with cross-purl looping and cross-check color patterning.
Intarsia Looping - 1-3 days. Learn to manage multiple colors in a technique traditionally used to make geometric-patterned bags. Choose hand-painted waxed linen (using New Age looping additions) or subtly variegated hand-dyed wool (using the timeless spit splicing method) for this class. Working without patterns or charts, our focus will be on tension control and purl looping, which lets you work in either direction to build blocks of color one row at a time.
Panel Looping Vessels - 2-3 days. This class incorporates double-wall and double-base components, bead looping, and stitch variations in a small vessel project. Class discussion will cover additional applications for panel components and panel-style vessels.
Pouf Looping--1 hour to 2 days. Learn mosaic bead looping and use it to create pillow-shaped poufs to use as focal beads, pendants and brooches. This workshop is available in a seminar format, teaching one bead looping technique in a simple project for completion after the class, or a longer format that includes more stitching and shaping options.
Peruvian Tapestry Looping--1-3 days Combine simple looping with purl looping to create a very stable, dense, textured surface. Use this technique to make subtle geometric patterns and textured surfaces. As time allows, you may translate Peruvian Tapestry into lacy Ardanza Looping or integrate bead looping elements.
