Grass Slipper by Donna Kallner

Dig into evolving  fiber traditions.

If you would like to discuss scheduling a class, please email me information about your group, your facility, and topics of interest to you. I look forward to working with you.

Bead Looping-- 1 hour to 3 days. Unlike bead knitting or crochet, where you string beads according to a plan before you begin, in bead looping you pick up one bead at a time so you can make color, value and pattern choices as you work. Bead looping creates a structure so stable it will not unravel even if you cut the fabric. This workshop is available in a seminar format, teaching one bead looping technique in a simple project for completion after the class, or longer formats that incorporate more stitching, shaping and freeform options.

Scrumble Looping - 1 hour to 1 day. Scrumbling is a freeform style that's like doodling with thread or yarn. No need to keep track of stitches or follow a pattern -- just relax and enjoy yourself, knowing that looping is such a stable structure you can pick up or end anywhere. Learn to work small motifs, change direction to create organic shapes, and combine elements to create 2-D and 3-D things like bags, flaps, fillings, cuffs, pockets and more.

Looping Sampler Purse--2-3 days. Using variations on a simple looping technique, you will learn to loop with and without a core element, play with complex looping and knotted stitches, and sample several ways to integrate color and geometric patterning. As time allows, you may add pockets or divider panels. Best of all, you'll gain confidence in working improvisationally (that is, without a pattern).

Toothbrush Looping-- 1 hour to 1 day. Use strips of fabric and a simple looping technique to create bags, mats, rugs, garments and even sculpture. As time allows you may also learn how to incorporate core elements, how to shape without a written pattern, sample different types of strip and core materials, learn to add pockets and other layers, and embellish toothbrush looping surfaces with additional looping and embroidery techniques. Fiber Mojo is a good companion class.
