Grass Slipper by Donna Kallner

Tradition in evolution.

Donna Kallner is a fiber artist, writer and teacher who leads workshops at textile schools, art centers, conferences, and guilds throughout the United States. In 2000 she left the economic uncertainty and heavy lifting of self-employment in outdoor recreation to teach fiber art fulltime. Her job now includes study of textile techniques, sampling, class development, sampling, writing proposals, sampling, writing class handouts, revising class handouts, preparing class materials, web site development, book publishing, blogging, conference planning, creating work for exhibition, and yes, more sampling.

Education

  • B.A. in Communications, Purdue University, 1980
  • Between 1980 and 2000, Donna worked as a trade magazine editor and as a professional whitewater canoeing instructor - experiences that strongly influence her approach to adult education and her teaching style. Her writing experience helps her produce top-quality student handouts. During her career in outdoor recreation she studied experiential education theory and techniques (with a focus on gender influences on learning), and honed her teaching skills in high-risk environments. As a fiber arts workshop leader, Donna is highly organized, prepared for a variety of learning styles, and skilled at course content delivery. She continues to study teaching techniques and enjoys the creative challenge of designing and presenting workshops.
