Wolf Moon is the name of my studio, and the name of my husband's manufacturing business. Bill's Wolf Moon Nets. Handcrafted right here in northern Wisconsin, are pretty enough to hang in the living room and tough enough to use for years then hand down to the next generation. Each net bow is a bent by hand. Handles are custom fit to the bow, and many handles have decorative inlays in contrasting woods. The nets are lovingly finished for lasting durability, and feature fish-friendly soft, knotless nylon or light-weight rubber sacks for catch-and-release fishing.

Bill and I spent more than 20 years as outdoor retailers and educators, operating a kayak and canoe school and store called Whitewater Specialty here on the Wolf River. If you're one of the familiar faces from our Whitewater Specialty days, here's a great big hello to you: Angle, Momentum & Lean!

Bill and I still paddle for fun. I also garden (when I'm not traveling around the country to teach). Bill fishes a LOT more, and makes these fine nets, which are sold in fly fishing shops around the country. Fiber arts and fishing both attract wonderful folks (and great storytellers). We're very grateful to the dealers who sell Wolf Moon Nets, and for the great job they do helping people have fun on the water.

The Wolf River, the lifeblood of the area where we live, is primarily thought of as trout water that is both challenging and rewarding to fish. What's often overlooked is the great smallmouth bass fishing. Smallmouth are aggressive, hard-hitting powerful fish - lots of fun to play on a fly rod. If you come to this area to fish, Bill offers this advice: "You will improve your success fishing these waters by being flexible. Because of water temperature fluctuations, the time of day you fish can make a big difference in your experience. And on the river, the water level is a huge factor. It can be difficult or even dangerous to wade fish when the river is very high, but you can fish on area spring ponds until the river drops. When cold weather delays a hatch or it's too high to wade when an anticipated hatch is coming off, have fun on the spring ponds. When the water is warmer or colder, using wet flies, streamers and nymphs can be very productive."

We feel lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world, and hope you get to visit here soon. In the meantime, if you see a Wolf Moon net in a fly shop (or better yet, on the water), you'll know the story behind the brand.
